Teaching Methodologies

The school follows the CBSE syllabus integrated with the International Baccalaureate IB PYP Primary Years Programme from kindergarten to grade V. The uniqueness of the school largely lies in this blended approach of offering Indian content using international methodologies. The school follows the international convention of a 12:1 student teacher ratio to optimize learning. Regular field trips are organized based on the PYP programme to help children understand the unit of inquiry in progress. Through out the learning process, both students & teachers actively get involved in assessing student progress. Students regularly assess their own work & reflect on their learning process. Teachers support the students in assessing their work by providing assessment criteria. Students go-through the pre-assessment, formative assessment summative assessment in PYP. Parent teacher meetings are held regularly in which the teachers describe how the students perform and behave in the class & parents provide their perspective. Students maintain their purposeful collection in portfolio. This helps the students in becoming self-assessors. The portfolio is shared by the students with the parent in a Student-Led Conference. This conference allows the students to play an active role in reporting the progress to their parents. The students also put - up an Exhibition in which they showcase their unit of Inquiry which focuses on the global issues. The subjects are not compartmentalized and the curriculum offers a seamless integration of classroom activities with other essential skills necessary for students to emerge as leaders in the real world. Equal importance is given to developing the cognitive and psychomotor skills of students. The teaching methodology often moves away from books to include the world outside the campus. Instead of being merely providing information in the classroom, they are allowed to explore their various intellectual facilities by seeing and doing things themselves.

Ex-Seed Learning

Children learn to solve problems through teamwork. They learn the skills of learning for continuous improvement. The classroom transactions are designed to generate inter-disciplinary knowledge through interactive sessions by creating opportunities for processing information. In today's technology driven knowledge era, the above mentioned components are integral to the holistic development of children. Teachers in Gitanjali International School are facilitators in the true sense of the word as they model and coach the children providing the children with the required scaffolding to draw out their best potential.

Lifeskills

Life Skills BUILDING CONFIDENCE- Schools and teachers play an important role in nurturing a child’s self-esteem which in turn builds confidence in the child. We have a number of programs designed to create an environment to allow even children with low confidence to bloom. We provide them with opportunities to push them out of their immediate comfort zone and learn skills which will help them thrive as they walk out of the gates of Gitanjali International into the world outside. Assembly In accordance with our ‘No Child Left Behind’ policy, the special assembly presentations are a joy to behold with every child in a class participating. The teacher’s creativity comes to the fore when she plans for themes like Water, The Army, Music, Books and many more. Students speak, dance, act and mime for a presentation. Planning and practice begins more than a month ahead of the D-day. Parents are invited to witness the presentations and invariably, one sees proud, ecstatic parents going back! QCT Quality Circle Time is a compulsory part of the curriculum for Grades I-V. It is the right blend of structure, enjoyment and learning. It has helped in improving listening, communication, social skills, problem-solving and other social and emotional competencies. The basic idea is to implement a positive approach towards learning as well as behaviour and activities are designed to enhance self-esteem in children leading to a positive school ethos. Life Skills Life skill classes enable the students to translate knowledge, attitudes and values into actual abilities. Life skills include psychosocial competencies and interpersonal skills that help people make informed decisions, solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate effectively, build healthy relationships, empathize with others, and cope with managing a stressful situation. At Gitanjali International, we do a lot of planning in conducting each activity in line with the above skills. Students are given an opportunity to discuss, debate and think out of the box. We also make the students generate positive and negative examples of each skill. Life skill classes are conducted through class discussions, brainstorming sessions, role plays, group activities, and storytelling sessions. One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar. The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because.
